    Myrtle Beach’s Market Common is decades in the making. How many new homes could be built?

    There’s one parcel that has yet to be developed as part of Market Common’s final plan.

    Over the years, the plan for MarketWalk has morphed and shifted from what it originally was decades ago when developers first began to build Market Common into what it is today.

    According to the most recent announcement about the project from the City of Myrtle Beach on Sunday, the plan includes 189 units of town homes and cottages, a Starbucks, a swimming pool, a clubhouse and 413 residential parking spaces.

    “Together, with your support we can complete the development of Market Common on a high note, and ensure that it will continue to be an asset to the City of Myrtle Beach,” Anthony Giocoia, vice president at Homefed Corporation, said at a council meeting last month.

    City Council members have yet to officially vote on these new plans or implement them.

    Originally, the MarketWalk plans had the space zoned as a 180,000-plus-square-foot department store, according to city documents.

    Community members are invited to attend a meeting about the proposed MarketWalk project on Thursday night at 5:30 p.m. at the General Robert Reed Recreation Center at 800 Gabreski Lane.

    The meeting will be hosted by the real estate developer for the project, HomeFed, and will include project manager Walter Warren as well as other HomeFed representatives.

    HomeFed is a real estate development company that was founded in 1988 and is headquartered in Carlsbad, CA, according to their website.

    The City of Myrtle Beach said in their Friday Fax memo that Warren and the representatives will discuss project plans and answer questions from the public.
