Those living near S.C. 90 and International Drive may have awoken to a boom this morning when a bomb was detonated in the area.

The device had been bought as a doorstop by a Myrtle Beach man, according to multiple police agencies.

Myrtle Beach police said officers responded to a home in the Market Common area Saturday night after a man called saying he was worried about a doorstop he had purchased at a garage sale. The doorstop was an old military item.

It was determined that the doorstop was actually a bomb.

Horry County Police posted that its bomb squad, SLED and personnel from Shaw Air Force Base were disposing of an explosive and to expect a loud sound Sunday morning. The bomb was detonated before 9 a.m.

In the comments of the post, people said they felt and heard the bomb from across the area, including near downtown Conway and Carolina Forest.
