ALDI announced Wednesday the grocery business would add more than 13,000 store and associate positions nationwide while also raising its national average hourly pay.

ALDI currently employs more than 49,000 people, but has spent the past few years aggressively buying and building new locations. Middle GA’s newest addition is in Thomaston.

The company bases its salaries on the location and position. A Milledgeville cashier position may be evidence of ALDI’s salary increases in Georgia. While Ziprecruiter lists the state’s average starting wage for this position at $14 per hour, ALDI has the position posted with a starting wage of $17 with three raises in the first five years. By year five, the cashier will make $19 an hour.

“Our ability to attract and retain talent has always been key to our success, and we look forward to helping our new team members grow in their careers,” said Atty McGrath, president of ALDI.
