The Houston County School District now has a three-year streak of a school in its district earning the prestigious National Blue Ribbon Award.

Feagin Mill Middle School was one of 10 schools across Georgia named an Exemplary High Performing School and recognized for maintaining high academic achievements, the U.S. Department of Education announced Monday.

Mark Sams, principal of Feagin Mill Middle School, said the school’s administration and support staff cultivated a learning environment that fosters academic excellence.

“This prestigious recognition is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our exceptional teachers, who consistently go above and beyond to support our students,” Sams said in a press release. “I extend my heartfelt gratitude to our students, their families, and everyone who has played a role in this remarkable achievement!”

Exemplary High Performing Schools are among the state’s highest-performing schools as measured by state assessments or national tests.

National Blue Ribbon Schools serve as models for exceptional teaching methods, stakeholder engagement and professional development, ensuring that every student succeeds, according to school officials.

Houston County School District Superintendent Dr. Mark Scott congratulated the school on the special award.

“The students, teachers and administrators at Feagin Mill Middle should be very proud of this recognition. They continuously strive to create an environment where learning is engaging and where students leave Feagin Mill feeling prepared for high school,” Scott said in the release.

Feagin Mill Middle School is the seventh school in Houston County to receive this designation, the district said.

The district has previously received Blue Ribbon recognition in 2023, 2022, 2011, 1999, 1996, and 1991.

The U.S. Department of Education chose 356 schools for the national award.

Feagin Mill Middle School will be recognized at a conference and awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. in November.
