Sen. JD Vance, the Republican vice presidential nominee, has postponed a campaign event in Macon due to the severe weather expected from Hurricane Helene.

Vance, the U.S. senator from Ohio and former President Donald Trump’s running mate, was supposed to deliver remarks at the Macon Convention Center Thursday.

The campaign said in an email that the event will be rescheduled “as soon as possible.” Another event featuring Vance in Flowery Branch will also be rescheduled due to severe weather.

Vance was going to deliver public remarks on inflation, which has been a hot issue for Republicans and Democrats this campaign cycle.

Hurricane Helene is scheduled to make landfall in Florida’s Big Bend region Thursday. The storm was officially upgraded from a tropical storm to a hurricane Wednesday morning, and is expected to send heavy rain, high winds and flood conditions into Middle Georgia in the coming days.
