Parts of Georgia are already feeling the effects of Hurricane Helene. Evidence of the Category 4 storm’s immediate impact are the reported power outages throughout the state.
By Friday morning, the storm had dropped back down to a Category 1. But with the storm eye reaching Macon in the early morning hours, power outages were getting worse throughout the early morning.
“Hurricane Helene has begun impacting our state and widespread outages are expected,” Georgia Power said on its website.
Here are the current local reported outages
2 p.m. update:
- More than 5,000 people were still without power Friday afternoon. Georgia Power says on its website it will provide restoration times when more information is available.
8 a.m. update:
- Power outages across the county have ballooned to over 10,000. Most are Georgia Power customers. The company hasn’t been able to provide estimated times for restoration yet.
“Our crews are responding to outages and restoring power where it’s safe to do so as quickly as possible,” the company said on its website.
6 a.m. update:
- Power outages have exceeded 4,000 in Macon. The vast majority of the outages are Georgia Power customers. Restoration times are still unclear.
4 a.m. update:
- More than 3,800 residents in Macon are without power many of them Georgia Power customers, according to outage maps. There are various outages, primarily north and east of downtown. Restoration times are unclear.
10:30 p.m. update:
- A Whispering Pines neighborhood adjacent to Lake Wildwood off I-475 and Peake Road has an outage with 219 homes affected. The estimated restoration time is Friday, Sept. 27, at 12:30 a.m.
- A small outage off Wesleyan Woods Dr. should be restored by Friday, Sept. 27, at 1 a.m.
6:30 p.m. update:
- An outage affecting 36 households on Malwood Dr. will be restored by 8:30 p.m.
- An outage on S. Stratford Oaks Dr. affecting 27 homes will also be restored by 8:30 p.m.
5 p.m. update:
- An area south of Macon Downtown Airport off Hwy. 23 has lost power. Estimated restoration time is 7:15 p.m.
- An area in East Macon off Hwy. 80 has an outage with an estimated restoration time of 6:45 p.m.
- An area surrounding Georgia Academy for the Blind off Vineville Ave. is without power. The 117 customers should have power restored by 8 p.m.
4 p.m. update:
A tree caused the outage in the Brookwood Drive area, affecting 117 Georgia Power customers. The estimated restoration time is now 5:45 p.m.
An area off Hwy. 41 at Houston Road and Hartley Bridge Road is without power, affecting 103 GP customers. The estimated time of restoration is 6:45 p.m.
As of 2:30 p.m., Georgia Power reported nine outages in the Macon-Bibb area, affecting 107 customers. The majority of those customers (96 households and businesses) are in Macon. An estimated restoration time was not available for the entire area, but several neighborhoods should see the power restored within the next two hours.
- Homes near Tattnall Square Academy should have their power restored by 3:15 p.m.
- Homes near I-75 and Hwy. 49 will have power back by around 4 p.m.
- A few Groveland households should have their power restored by 4:45 p.m., according to the Georgia Power outage map .
- The power company also expects to restore power to 60 customers on Brookwood Drive and Brookwood Drive South by 4:45 p.m.
- Homes off Pierce Ave. should expect power to return by 5:15 p.m.
