Macon saw about 7 to 8 inches of rain from early Thursday until Hurricane Helene moved out of the area, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Over 7 inches of rain was reported at the Ocmulgee River, and about 8 inches at Tobesofkee Creek in Macon, the USGS reported.

Rain had increased about 2 inches in the final 12 hours of the severe weather, but rainfall unrelated to the hurricane, which ramped up to a Category 4 before reducing to a Category 1 over Georgia, began Thursday morning.

The city’s highest wind gust Thursday was 45 mph, and the highest sustained wind speed was 25 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

Maximum temperatures in Macon reached 76 degrees around 11:30 p.m. Thursday, the NWS said.

Rain cleared up in most of Macon by around 8 a.m. Friday. Fog, wind and cloudy skies were still present with temperatures in the mid-60s, which was expected to remain through the weekend.

The weather was forecasted to be cloudy and humid Friday morning and into the evening, according to accuweather.com .
