Georgia’s graduating class of 2024 outperformed national averages on the SAT, despite scoring lower than last year’s senior-bound class.
While standardized test scores across the state fell slightly, the majority of school districts in the Middle Georgia Regional Educational Service Agency saw a broad improvement compared to last year’s SAT scores. The class of 2024 seniors in Crawford, Houston, Jones and Monroe counties outscored their peers in public schools nationally and/or statewide, according to the Georgia Department of Education’s provided district-level scores.
The Houston County School District’s SAT scores beat the state and national means for the eighth consecutive year.
“We are pleased with the progress our students continue to make each year on their SAT scores,” Houston County School District Superintendent Dr. Mark Scott said in a news release. “Congratulations to our recent graduates for outperforming the state and nation on the SAT. We wish them much success in the future!”
The national SAT total mean was 995. The math mean score was 488, and the evidence-based reading and writing mean was 507.

Bibb County
Math: 407
Reading and writing: 435
Total: 843
Howard High School had the highest total of a 915 score mean, while the lowest were Westside High and Southwest High schools with 788 and 78.
None of the six high schools in Bibb County outperformed nationally or statewide, but the district did see an overall improvement compared to last year.
Crawford County
Crawford County High School, with only 28 test takers, outperformed national and statewide averages, except for in math.
The school improved from its 963 total score mean last year.
Houston County
Math: 517
Reading and writing: 537
Total: 1054
Four out of five of Houston’s high schools scored above 1000, with Warner Robins High School just three points shy at a score mean of 997. Houston County High School led the pack with a 1081 score mean.
The district made improvements compared to the graduating class of 2023’s mean score, which was 1051.
Jasper County
Math: 492
Reading and writing: 513
Total: 1005
Jasper County High School, with 70 test takers, beat the nationwide average scores. The school’s test scores dipped from 1029.
Jones County
Math: 506
Reading and writing: 529
Total: 1035
Jones County High School beat national and statewide SAT score averages. The school also improved from last year’s total score mean of 1018.
Monroe County
Math: 501
Reading and writing: 532
Total: 1033
Mary Pearson High School scores beat the national average but were two points shy of outperforming the statewide numbers.
Twiggs County’s test results were not immediately available.
