A man wanted in connection with a July homicide investigation is now behind bars in Nashville.

Metro Nashville Police said Rickey Starks, 24, was taken into custody in Covington, Tennessee, on an outstanding grand jury indictment of first-degree murder and felony murder.

Starks is charged in connection with the death of 23-year-old Memphis man, London Montgomery.

Montgomery was found July 7 in the driver's seat of a stolen vehicle after it crashed into a retaining wall. Wounded by gunfire, Montgomery was taken to a local hospital, where he died, police said.

Before the shooting, police said Montgomery backed into a parking space, next to a Jeep, in a parking lot on Hamilton Crossings Road in South Nashville. Someone got out of the Jeep and into Montgomery's car for a brief moment. A short time later, a second person got out of the Jeep and approached Montgomery's vehicle in what police believed to be a robbery attempt.

Montgomery started to drive off when one of the suspects fired several rounds, striking the man. He kept driving before he crashed, police said.

Through coordination with the Tipton County Sheriff's Office, officers were able to locate Starks and take him into custody, police said. He was returned to Nashville Tuesday night and booked at the Downtown Detention Center in lieu of a $500,000 bond.
