One of the most well-known sandwich shops in the world is heading to Nashville.

All'Antico Vinaio will open its ninth U.S. location in developer SomeraRoad's Prima tower in the Gulch, SomeraRoad confirmed to The Tennessean on Wednesday. The spot on Eighth Avenue South is in the micro-neighborhood Paseo South Gulch, where the Prima luxury high-rise apartments opened earlier this year and a number of local favorites like Barista Parlor and Maiz de la Vida are set to open soon.

"Everything we've done to Paseo South Gulch has been really intentional curation of a retail environment that does one of two things," SomeraRoad founder Ian Ross said. "Either one highlights the best that Nashville has to offer, or two brings new-to-market concepts that are underserved in the local market and that are highly lauded."

Along with Australian eatery Two Hands and joint barbershop-speakeasy The Blind Barber, All'Antico Vinaio falls into Ross's second category, he said.

The Mazzanti family opened the original All’Antico Vinaio in Florence, Italy, in 1989 with high-quality ingredients and fresh-baked Tuscan schiacciata, a flatbread similar to focaccia. When Tommaso Mazzanti joined the family business in 2014, he spearheaded its growth, opening numerous locations across Italy.

All’Antico Vinaio made its debut in the United States in 2021 with shops in New York City. From there, the company expanded to Las Vegas, Los Angeles and, now, Nashville.

"All’Antico Vinaio is arguably the best sandwich shop in the world. I mean, if you've been in Florence or in New York, it's truly incredible, lines out the door," Ross said. "When we heard they were interested in Nashville, we just began a dialogue, but with every one of our tenants, I'll tell you, these things don't happen quickly."

The Nashville location's opening date has not yet been announced.

While the menu can vary across locations, All’Antico Vinaio's U.S. shops have a few staples: La Summer with prosciutto parma, fresh mozzarella, tomato and basil, La Paradiso with mortadella, stracciatella, pistachio cream and pistachio crumbles and La Toscana with salami, pecorino and truffle honey.

The shop also added sandwiches like The New Yorker and the L.A. Fadeaway to the menu when it opened in those cities. The Nashville could be next.
