Nashville comedian Danae Hays and her wife, Mandie, post online that they're splitting

After four years of marriage and hundreds of TikTok videos together, Nashville comedian Danae Hays and her wife, online fashion influencer Mandie Kaii, posted online Friday, Aug. 30 that they are splitting.

"We are both deeply saddened to share that we have decided to go our separate ways," the two wrote in a brief statement posted to TikTok and Instagram accounts for both Hays and Kaii.

Hays, 31, rose to fame with funny videos that often poke fun at her Southern upbringing in Alabama, building an audience of more than 3 million TikTok followers . Earlier this year, she started touring comedy clubs and theaters in the South and Midwest.

Her videos often included her wife, usually making fun of themselves and each other, presenting caricature versions of Hays as the more redneck and Kaii as the girly-girl Californian.

"This decision did not come easy as we both have so much love and respect for one another," their joint statement said. "But it is truly what is best for both of us."

Hays did not immediately respond to a text message from The Tennessean asking for comment. Hays and Kaii, both college softball stand outs, first met through private messages sent on Instagram in 2016.

In social media comments, most fans said they were shocked the two were breaking up. Many posted messages saying they were waiting for Hays to reveal the news was a joke.

"Reading the whole time waiting for the 'gotcha' sentence," one fan who identifies herself as DiannelisM on TikTok posted.

"The way I yelled 'WHATTTTT' at my phone," TikTok user mamadaughtertok posted.

Hayes is slated to perform at TPAC's James K. Polk theater Oct. 17.
