On Tuesday night, Lainey Wilson hit the stage on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" to perform her song "4x4xU" and sit down with Fallon.

"4x4xU," which appears on Wilson's new album "Whirlwind," dropped as a single in anticipation of the album in July.

For her Fallon performance, Wilson sat on a couch onstage to deliver the sentimental song about hitting the road with her lover.

With picture-painting verses and sweeping choruses, Wilson sang, "I'm the kind to take the keys / Don't sit in a shotgun seat / 'Less I want to ... In a 4x4xU, babe / From the bayou to Kentucky."

Wilson recently took to NPR's "Tiny Desk Concert" series as well, where she showcased new songs "Hang Tight Honey," "4x4xU" and "Ring Finger" and her 2022-released hit "Heart Like A Truck."

Wilson's 2022 album "Bell Bottom Country" — which included "Heart Like A Truck," Watermelon Moonshine" and "Wildflowers and Wild Horses" — brought home the Grammy Award for Country Album of the Year.

The 32-year-old Grand Ole Opry member and reigning CMA Entertainer of the Year also was nominated for four 2024 CMA Awards on Monday morning.

Wilson sat down with Fallon to discuss her "whirlwind" of a year and how far she has come.

Fallon read out all of Wilson's recent accomplishments — like her Opry status and CMA nominations — and asked Wilson about where it all began for her.

"I would play anywhere that they let me play," she said. "I'm talking about nursing homes, flat-bed trailers ... my parents would be like 'Hey Lainey, sing that song you just wrote last week for anybody.' And I'd just do it."

Wilson said she started writing songs at 9 years old and shouted out her small town of Baskin, Louisiana. As they talked about her roots, Fallon whipped out Wilson's first CD from 2006 and asked her to sing a bit of a song off of it called "Country Girls Rule" — which Wilson did, warning that it wouldn't be great.

Fallon kept digging up the past, showing the audience a picture of Wilson from back in the day as a Hannah Montana impersonator. Wilson said she impersonated the Disney Channel character from eighth grade to twelfth grade for birthday parties three or four times a week.

Wilson recently got the chance to meet Miley Cyrus when she performed at the 2024 Disney Legends Ceremony on Aug. 11.

"It was just really cool to be able to shake her hand and tell her how much Hannah Montana meant to me," Wilson said, adding that the character gave her the opportunity to see if music is what she wanted to do for a living.

Fallon pivoted to the new album, asking about "Whirlwind."

"Making this music, it brought me home during a time in my life that just felt like it was constantly changing," Wilson said. "Even right now still I feel like my life is a whirlwind, but I'm figuring out how to hold on a little more."
