A Fortune 500 company that insures electronics, appliances and other high-end consumer goods has opened a new Innovation and Device Care Center in Wilson County that is employing 800 workers.

Assurant held a grand opening on Thursday for its new 259,000-square-foot device career center at 255 Aldi Boulevard, just off Interstate 840. Assurant's new facility is about double the size of a previous location it is moving from in La Vergne, according to a company news release.

About 400 employees transitioned from the La Vergne location with around 400 more workers hired for the Wilson County facility, according to a company spokesperson.

The relocation "is part of our global supply chain transformation," Assurant President and CEO Keith Demmings said. Assurant has been in the Nashville area since 2017, according to the news release.

The Wilson County facility will operate as a key hub for Assurant's Device Lifecycle Solutions business, which in 2023 repurposed 22 million devices such as smartphones and tablets in efforts to extend the life of devices and reduce e-waste.

The new facility will also house Assurant's Automation and Engineering team, which develops new ways to leverage automation, robotics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning to create greater value in the global supply chain and grow the secondary device market.

In conjunction with the opening, Assurant announced that the Assurant Foundation has awarded a grant of $100,000 over two years to Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro. The grant will support the construction of a new Assurant Engineering Innovation Lab and expand the company’s partnership with MTSU’s Mechatronics Engineering program.
