Tennessee Titans coach Brian Callahan reveals thought process as NFL trade deadline looms

Tennessee Titans coach Brian Callahan isn't ready to start talking about trade rumors, and might not ever be.

Callahan's Titans have struggled through the first month of his tenure, limping to a 1-4 start with three close losses. As the NFL trade deadline looms, Callahan said he's leaving conversations about whether the Titans need to be buyers or sellers at the Nov. 5 deadline to front office personnel like general manager Ran Carthon executive vice president Chad Brinker.

"I let those guys handle most of that right now; I've got enough on my plate," Callahan said Wednesday. "We'll have conversations if those calls come in. But most of my focus is fully on trying to get us ready to go play Buffalo and all the games coming up after that too. They handle the trade deadline. That's personnel's job. If things come up, I'll be in the mix of it in the conversations. But other than that, I'm not in there doing a whole lot of it. They're the ones running the show."

Several big names have been traded this week, beginning what figures to be a busy three-week stretch before the NFL trade deadline. Most notably, the Las Vegas Raiders shipped receiver Davante Adams to the New York Jets and the Cleveland Browns traded receiver Amari Cooper to the Bills. Both were instances of last-place teams in similar situations to the Titans selling off assets early in the year to teams desperate to stay in contention or claw their way back into contention before it's too late.

The Titans have several starters on the final year of their contract who would theoretically make sense as trade chips, including receivers DeAndre Hopkins and Tyler Boyd, safety Quandre Diggs, linebacker Ernest Jones IV and more. Given the hauls the Raiders and Browns got back for Adams and Cooper, Hopkins is the Titans' most valuable trade chip.

The Titans visit the Cooper and the Bills (4-2) in Buffalo on Sunday (noon, CBS).
