Eighth-grade QB Ty Snell 2-0 as starter after 3 TDs in Lipscomb Academy football win vs Knox Catholic

Lipscomb Academy football improved to 2-0 in games eighth-grader Ty Snell starts at quarterback as the Mustangs rolled to a 47-23 win over Knoxville Catholic in a DII-AAA East Region game Friday night.

Snell went 15-of-19 for 241 yards and three touchdowns against the Irish. He found wideout Cam Blivens nine times. Blivens finished with 223 yards receiving and four TDs, catching a touchdown from Tav Shaffer in the fourth quarter.

Snell, who already has an offer from Marshall, picked up another Friday from Arkansas State . Through three games played, he is 39-of-65 passing for 565 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions. Lipscomb Academy improved to 3-5 and 2-1 in region, moving into a tie with McCallie for second place.

Snell earned his first start at quarterback last week in the Mustangs' 23-0 win over DII-AAA rival MBA. He was 15-of-21 passing for 176 yards against the Big Red, becoming what is believed to be the first Nashville area eighth-grader to start at quarterback in one of the state's toughest regions.

Snell's first taste of varsity action came in Lipscomb Academy's 37-23 loss at Christian Brothers in Missouri Oct. 4. He threw for 148 yards and a touchdown in that game.

Snell, 13, is 6-foot-2, 176 pounds.

Lipscomb Academy has two regular-season games left. The Mustangs play at Brentwood Academy and quarterback George MacIntyre, a Tennessee football commit, on Oct. 25. Lipscomb plays at McCallie on Nov. 1
