7-Eleven is set to close more than 400 stores. How many are there in Tennessee?

More than 400 7-Eleven stores across the U.S. are expected to close before the new year.

7-Eleven's parent company, Seven & I Holdings , announced the closure of 444 "underperforming stores" on Oct. 10 during a second-quarter earnings call.

The convenience store giant operates more than 13,000 stores across the United States and Canada. This closure would shut the doors on about 3% of 7-Eleven stores in the region.

Seven & I Holdings has yet to announce a specific list of locations that could be closing.

USA TODAY reported that traffic and sales were challenged "as consumers pull back due to inflationary pressure" and also said industry-wide that consumer cigarette sales continue to decline.

Stores close, despite recent Nashville expansion

The Greater Nashville area and Murfreesboro have the highest concentration of 7-Eleven locations in Tennessee. In total, there are around 50 locations.

The hefty amount of locations near the fast-growing region is not an accident. The convenience store opened many of these locations just three years ago in 2021.

Five of those locations include one or more on-site restaurants, CStoreDecisions reported in 2021.

How many 7-Eleven stores are in Tennessee?

There are 7-Eleven locations scattered around the state, however, a majority of the stores are located in central Tennessee. In fact, there is a noticeable lack of 7-Eleven locations in Memphis, Knoxville and Northeast Tennessee.

In total, the Volunteer State has nearly 60 7-Eleven stores .

USA Today and Betty Lin-Fisher contributed to this report .
