    Franklin PD gives all clear after bomb threat closes Paul D. Camp Community College campuses

    According to Deputy Chief Robert Porti, with the Franklin Police Department, on Sept. 16, 2024, at approximately 8:25 a.m., the City of Franklin Emergency Communication Center received a bomb threat report from Paul D. Camp Community College, located at 100 North College Drive. City of Franklin police, fire, and emergency services personnel responded to the scene and assisted in evacuating campus buildings.

    The Southampton County Sheriff’s Office, Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office, and the City of Suffolk Fire Department Fire Marshal’s Office also responded with explosive detection canines to assist in searching the campus. Porti said by approximately 10:58 a.m., all Paul D. Camp Community College facilities were deemed clear.

    The Franklin and Suffolk campuses are set to reopen at 2 p.m., with classes and activities resuming as scheduled. Camp’s Center at Smithfield will reopen Tuesday at 8:30 a.m.

    The Franklin Police Department thanked the Virginia State Police, Southampton County Sheriff’s Office, Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office, and the City of Suffolk Fire Department Fire Marshal’s Office for their assistance.

    The incident remains under investigation.
