The first round of results in the May 2024 primary election was released on the evening of May 21, showing that Paul Fournier appeared on track to easily take position two on Tillamook County’s board of commissioners, while Erin Skaar held a lead over Jeff Spink in the race for position one.

In other results, KaSandra Larson looked poised to become the next Tillamook County assessor, Cyrus Javadi appeared to hold off a primary challenge in the Republican race for state house district 32 and a Tillamook Fire District bond question looked on track to fail.

As of 8 p.m. on election night, a total of 5,698 ballots had been received and 5,647 accepted by the Tillamook County Clerk’s office. With a total of 21,279 total registered voters in the county, this represented a turnout of 26.54%. An update to election results will be released on Thursday, May 23, at 5 p.m., though ballots arriving within a week and postmarked on or before election day will be counted.

Fournier garnered 3,627 of 5,046 votes tallied in the race for the board of county commissioners position two, representing almost 71.8% of total votes cast, while opponent Darcy Jones had received 1,369 votes.

After the first round of vote tallying in the race for position one on the board, Skaar, the incumbent, had received 52.8% of the 5168 votes cast. Her closest challenger, Spink, had 27.8% of the vote, while Bruce Lovelin had 18.9%.

If Skaar still commands more than 50% of votes cast when results are finalized in 30 days, she will win reelection, but if she falls below that threshold she will head to a runoff against the second-place vote getter in November.

Larson was on pace to win the race for the assessor’s position and replace the retiring Denise Vandecoevering, having received 64% of the 4,876 votes cast, while opponent Kari Fleisher had 1,677.

Javadi was on track for a commanding victory over Republican primary challenger Glenn Gaither, both in Tillamook County and across house district 32. Overall, Javadi led with 71.7% of votes counted, while he had received 77.3% of the votes in Tillamook County.

The Tillamook Fire District’s request that voters approve a bond of 84 cents per thousand dollars of assessed property value trailed with 1,203 of 2,132, or 56% of votes cast against the question.
