    Mook Invite at Alderbrook brings thousands of runners to golf course

    The Alderbrook Golf Course took a morning off golf to host high school runners from all over the Northwest. In its second year, The Mook XC Invite hosted 3,500 athletes and 3,000 spectators hosted on Sept. 21. The day’s race schedule boasted 12 different race divisions.

    The Tillamook Cheesemakers broke their squad up into several different competition levels.

    Sophomore Brooke Bush was the top lady finisher for the Mooks, competing in the Gold Girls Varsity Division. Bush completed the 5k course in a time of 20:37.60 and finished in 47th place. She was followed by teammates Reese Hopkes in 86th place in a time of 21:31.60 and Hannah Werner in 138th place in a time of 22:55.40.

    On the boys’ side, sophomore Diego Velazquez was the first Cheesemaker in the Gold Boys Varsity Division. He finished 35th place in a time of 16:49.50. Junior Ryan Sheets was the next Mook in 57th place in a time of 17:07.1.

    The boys’ team was also able to fill a whole scoring slot in the Silver Boys Varsity Division. Andrew Lopes (47th, 19:00.1) and Damien Kiser (64th, 19:36.8) led the way. The boys team finished 13th overall in the division.
