National Night Out returning to Port Huron

Harrison Pointe Neighborhood will be hosting a National Night Out event Tuesday to bring Port Huron residents together with local law enforcement.

The event will be held on 14th Street between Francis and Wells streets from 5 to 7 p.m. That section of 14th Street will be closed to traffic during the event.

National Night Out events have been held in communities across the United States as a way for local community members to meet police and other first responders.

Kathleen McCready, who helped organize the event this year on behalf of Harrison Pointe Neighborhood, said Port Huron stopped hosting National Night Out events during the COVID-19 pandemic and that this year's event will be a return to form for the neighborhood.

"We're hoping just to get people out and meet and greet," McCready said.

The event will include face painting and games for children. Members of the Port Huron Police Department and Port Huron Fire Department will be in attendance.

"We're excited to be a part of the block parties," Port Huron police Capt. Jeremy Young said. "It's a great way to meet with neighbors in their neighborhood, hear what their concerns are and just have fun in a positive way."

McCready said she hoped the event would not only bring law enforcement together, but also members of the neighborhood and wider community.

"It's important to know your neighbors," McCready said. "It's a good neighborhood."
