PORT HURON — Construction was expected to get underway this week on Holland Avenue on the city’s north end.

According to a news release from the city, reconstruction was slated to begin Monday with the roadway closed to thru traffic until the end of this month.

Improvements will include new asphalt pavement, select curb and gutter work, ADA sidewalk ramp upgrades, and lawn restoration. The project is to be financed in part through funds from the voter-approved street millage. There was $640,000 in local street funds set aside for the project in this year's city budget. It'll also be financed with funds from a federal surface transportation program.

The roadway on Holland west of 10th Avenue and east of Gratiot Avenue was listed as in poor condition, according to the city's latest PASER, or pavement surface evaluation rating, update as of 2022.

For more information, contact Port Huron’s department of public works at (810) 984-9730.
