The Michigan Department of Transportation is hosting an open house to discuss future plans to rebuild a portion of the Interstate 94 Business Loop in Port Huron — also know as Huron Avenue between the Black River and Glenwood Avenue.

The open house will be held at the Port Huron Municipal Office Center at 100 McMorran Boulevard from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Sept. 3.

"I-94 BL currently has two lanes in each direction with parallel on-street parking," a news release announcing the open house stated. "As part of this project, MDOT is exploring the opportunity to reconfigure I-94 BL."

The announcement states MDOT has come up with five different configurations for rebuilding I-94 BL, and that they will all be presented at the open house.

Caitlyn French, communications representative for MDOT in the Bay Region, provided summaries of each of the five plans under consideration for the I-94 business loop:

    1. Remain the same: four lanes total, two on northbound two on southbound, parrel parking on both sides.
    2. Road diet (one northbound, one southbound lane with a middle turn lane) with back-in angle parking on both northbound and southbound sides.
    3. Road diet with back-in angle parking on northbound, buffered bike lanes added on southbound
    4. Road diet with parallel parking on northbound and southbound sides, bike lanes on both.
    5. Road diet with parallel parking on northbound and southbound sides, protected bike lanes and northbound side.

The open house will include renderings to show what each of the five construction plans will look like when completed.
