    Newcomerstown News: Art center showcases work by Michelle Wittensoldner through April

    The Arts Center of Newcomerstown will showcase the photography of local talent Michelle Wittensoldner this month. Renowned for her award-winning nature photography, Wittensoldner can transform everyday subjects into captivating images, revealing the beauty often overlooked in the world around us.As an active member of the local photo club and the Tuscarawas County Art Guild, her work has been featured in numerous publications.

    Originally from Springfield Township in Akron, Wittensoldner has lived in Tuscarawas County for the past two decades, drawing inspiration from the scenic landscapes of the region.The Extraordinary Photography of Michelle Wittensoldner, the exhibition will be on display until the end of April. After that the art center will showcase a collection of abstract art, The Art of William Belle, by local artist William Belle. An artist reception will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. May 4.

    Mayor’s breakfast

    The monthly Newcomerstown Mayor’s Breakfast will be held on Saturday, at April’s Country Kitch’n. Breakfast is on your own and community topics will be discussed.

    Council highlights

    ● Several residents of North College Street attended the most recent meeting and four asked about enforcing ordinances in regard to removal of junk cars, old campers, and clutter in addition to dogs being left outside.

    ● Nancy Orr representing Newcomerstown Now, a committee promoting revitalization, asked council to close the alley in between the Bowman Building and the Oddbox to traffic. They have plans to make the alley a place for locals to gather with benches, lighting, and canopies for shade. This will also allow a venue to highlight local artwork. Council voted to close the alley as they have permission to do so from both building owners on either side of the alley.● The third reading of Ordinance 05-2024 concerning the use of utility vehicles (UTVs) side-by-sides and mini trucks on village streets where the speed limit is less than 35 miles per hour or less was tabled to the next meeting due as four of the six members were present to vote, and based on Police Chief Opha Lawson’s opposition. This will be discussed further when all six council members are present.● Council voted to hire seasonal street department worker Tony Bruce. A bid of $2,000 was accepted by the council from Gina Montgomery to purchase a rear lot at 628 W. State.

    Chestnut Hill Bluegrass Band

    The Chestnut Hill Bluegrass Band will perform at the Wooly Pig Farm Brewery at 2 p.m. May 11. The Wooly Pig Farm Brewery is located at 23631 Township Road 167 in Fresno, between Newcomerstown and West Lafayette.
