    Fort Laurens hosts American Revolution traveling exhibit

    BOLIVAR – Fort Laurens is hosting a traveling exhibit, The American Revolution Experience, featuring the American Battlefield Trust and the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution this week.

    The exhibit includes 12 display panels and three interactive digital kiosks that use storytelling, illustration, technology, unique artifacts and primary accounts to tell about the people and places that shaped the foundation of America.

    The American Revolution Experience received a Bronze Award in the Education, Art, & Culture division of the second annual Anthem Awards, an initiative of the Webby Awards celebrating purpose and mission-driven work, and a finalist in the People’s Choice category of the Webbys themselves, according to a news release.

    Admission is $6 for adults, $3 for children ages 5-17 and free for children 4 and younger. All activities and access to the Fort Laurens Museum are included in the ticket price. For more information, call 330-874-2059 or email fortlaurens@gmail.com.

    Memorial Run is Sept. 1

    DOVER − The Dover American Legion Post 205 will hold its first Memorial Run, which will be a 5K run/walk, Sept. 1 at Dover’s City Park, starting and finishing at Dover Middle School. This event will be in conjunction with the City of Dover’s End of Summer Celebration.

    Registration is $20 for children up to age 17 and $25 for 18 and older. Registration, along with sponsorship forms, can be picked up at Dover City Hall and at the Dover Parks and Recreation Department. T-shirts will be guaranteed to those who sign up before Wednesday.     Programs on streaming, tie-dyeing and hiking

    DOVER − The Dover Public Library will offer the following programs this week in the community room. For more information or to register, visit www.doverlibrary.org/events or call the library at 330-343-6123.

    Assistant librarian Steven Shroyer will present Cut It Out! How to Ditch Cable and Explore the Wide World of Streaming at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. He will discuss the reasons why people are frustrated with cable TV and explore alternatives such as Roku and Firestick. He will also give tips about choosing and setting up the new service.

    Library assistant Lacey Smith will help participants explore tie-dyeing tea towels using various techniques and patterns at 10 a.m. Friday. Space is limited.

    Ohio author Brandon Weis will speak about his book “This is Gonna Hurt: Hiking 8,000 Miles in One Year,” at 2 p.m. Saturday. Weis hiked the Appalachian Trail, Pacific Crest Trail, Continental Divide Trail and Arizona Trail in one year. Weis will show slides of America’s landscapes. A book signing will follow the program.

    Lab tests and health screenings available

    DOVER − The Dover-New Philadelphia Kiwanis Club is hosting its annual health profile event from 6 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the Tuscarawas County YMCA. Participants can choose from a variety of lab tests at a reduced cost of $50 for women and $60 for men. Lab tests will include a complete blood count, comprehensive metabolic panel, bilirubin, AST, TSB, and PSA for male patients. Participants must bring a photo ID.

    Arts and crafts festival next two weekends

    MALVERN − The Great Trail Arts and Crafts Festival will be held 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Aug. 25, Aug. 31, Sept. 1 and 2 at the Great Trail Festival Grounds, 6331 Canton Road (state Route 43).

    It is a celebration of American folk art, with contemporary and country crafting. The French and Indian-era festival includes live music, clog dancing, show fiddlers, Scottish pipers, historical demonstrations, a live buffalo herd, battle reenactments and tomahawk throwing.

    Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for youth ages 12-18, and free for children younger than 12 when accompanied by an adult. Group rates are available. No pets permitted. Parking is free. For more information, visit greattrailfestival.com .

    Library board seeks to fill vacancy

    NEW PHILADELPHIA − The Tuscarawas County Public Library Board of Trustees will have a vacancy due to the expiring term of its Tuscarawas representative Kait Gallagher-Wilsterman. Applicants must be residents of the Tuscarawas County Public Library District in Tuscarawas County and live in Tuscarawas, Midvale, Port Washington, or Waynewright areas. Members serve seven-year terms. The term for this board position will expire Dec. 31, 2031.

    The Tuscarawas County Public Library has mobile services and five facilities in New Philadelphia, Bolivar, Strasburg, Sugarcreek, and Tuscarawas. The board includes representatives from each of these communities and meets at 5:30 p.m. the third Monday of each month at the main library.
