The Tuscarawas County Sheriff's Office got a call around 3:47 p.m. about a man down on Geottge Avenue NE in New Philadelphia in the vicinity of Harry Clever Field, according to Sheriff Orvis Campbell.

Deputies and detectives responded to the scene to gather evidence. A video was found showing a green pickup truck striking the man and then leaving the area, Campbell said. The incident took place near the parking lot of the old Hometown 1 Mobile Home Sales location on East High Avenue at the rear of the building where Geottge Avenue runs. The green truck is then seen on video continuing through the parking lot towards East High, turning west on High Avenue.

Officers from the New Philadelphia Police Department and firefighters from the New Philadelphia Fire Department were also on scene. The victim had broken bones and a serious head injury. He was transported by medical helicopter to Summa Akron City Hospital, where he had surgery for brain trauma.

    Suspect interviewed

A witness helped identify the suspect, who police said lived nearby on Geottge Avenue NE. He was located and interviewed by Detective Capt. Adam Fisher of the sheriff's office. The suspect confessed to intentionally striking the victim, Campbell said. There was an alleged history of threats between the two men.

The pickup truck was found at a relative's house in Uhrichsville.

A probable cause hearing was held, with Judge Nanette DeGarmo Von Allman of New Philadelphia Municipal Court authorizing the suspect's continued detention in the Tuscarawas County Jail until formal charges are filed.

Jail? He needs to be in prison. It doesn't matter that it was two assholes, leaving the other guy in that condition and the age difference is unacceptable.
