Router failure causes connectivity issues for some Kansas government operations

State officials have resolved a network issue affecting customer experience with state systems and services are now back to normal.

Customers interacting with state government agencies on Monday may have experienced computer technical issues.

"One of the state's core routers failed overnight and, as a result, a handful of agencies have been experiencing intermittent connectivity issues today," Office of Information Technology Services spokesperson Allie Denning told The Capital-Journal. "While not ideal, IT hardware failures of this nature do occur from time to time and are considered routine."

It was unclear how many state agencies are affected. A reporter at the DMV in Shawnee County was told that systems were not working due to a state computer issue, while at least three other Kansas counties reported an inability to process motor vehicle transactions due to an issue with the Kansas Department of Revenue system.

"While the majority of state operations have not been impacted by the hardware failure, we understand how frustrating disruptions like this can be to customers that have been impacted and we want to apologize for any inconvenience that it has caused," Denning said.

There was not a clear time frame for restoring service.

"Office of Information Technology Services technicians are working to resolve the issue and to restore full connectivity to those agencies that have been impacted as quickly as possible," Denning said.

Denning said Tuesday morning that the network issue was resolved late Monday evening.
