    No injuries reported due to storm

    Just before 3 p.m. on Friday, the Surry County Emergency Services Department issued a press release saying no injuries have been reported during the extreme weather incident in the area due to effects of Hurricane Helene.

    Surry EMS reported 332 calls related to the storm since midnight.

    According to the release, public safety personnel are working to address and clear downed trees across Surry County.

    Surry Yadkin Electric is reporting 6,500 without power and Duke Energy is reporting 12,100 without power.

    Surry EMS issued the following warnings:

    • Citizens should stay away from all downed lines.

    • Please use caution if you must travel at night.

    • 911 should only be used for emergency situations and not to report downed trees or powerl ines.
