The Crescent Fire Protection District (CFPD) voted to sell its long-vacant fire station and adjacent land located at 550 E. Cooper Avenue at its monthly Monday meeting. The District vote was 5-0.

The CFPD directed Fire Chief Kevin Carey to meet with Del Norte Sheriff Garrett Scott to discuss the possibility of the DNSD purchasing the Cooper Avenue property as the future home for Search and Rescue (SAR).

Search and Rescue must move its present location on Williams Drive to accommodate the razing of the dilapidated mental health building housing SAR. The Dept. of Health and Human Service will administer the $8.23 million homeless housing grant to be operated by the non-profit Mission Possible group.

CFPD hopes to use sale proceeds to build a training center for volunteers within the CFPD Washington Avenue property.
