During a dual Public Hearing, the Crescent City Council unanimously approved a Resolution amending the General Plan for 1405 California Avenue. On an accompanying Public Hearing, the council waived the full reading and adopted Ordinance 840 amending the Zoning designation for 1405 California Ave.

The change allows for the construction of additional housing units to address the shortage of housing in the City.

1405 California, identified as APN as 118-403-002 is partially developed with a 7,050 sq. ft commercial building (formally California Auto Image) and is currently being developed with 16 residential units. By changing both the General Plan and Zoning designation from R-2/C-2 to R-3 for the majority of the parcel (except for the commercial building) would increase the allowable residential density. The project would include an additional 40 dwelling units. The now 56 unit project would include 36 two bedroom and 20 three bedroom units.

A separate Ordinance was needed to allow the dwelling designation.

The changes to the General Plan and the Ordinance will effectuate 30 days after adoption, April 17.
