The California Fish and Game Commission (Commission) voted unanimously last week to close in-River and Ocean recreational salmon sport fishing in the Klamath River Basin, for the second consecutive year.

The Order prohibits the take and possession of fall-run Chinook salmon in the Klamath and Trinity Rivers and their tributaries. The Commission also voted to adopt emergency closures for spring Chinook salmon sport fishing in the Klamath and Trinity rivers.

The Commission also ruled a similar ban for Chinook for the Sacramento, American Feather and Mokelumne rivers and their tributaries.

The regulations are expected to take effect no later than July 1, following approval by the state Office of Administrative Law.

Last month, the Pacific Fishery Management Council recommended to the DFWD the closure for both commercial and recreational ocean Salmon Fisheries off the California coast.
