<body><div> From Tribune staff reports TRUSSVILLE — The Hewitt Trussville High School and Hewitt Trussville Middle School Mountain Bike Team each took home the Alabama Cycling Association (ACA) State Championship for the 2024 season. The team celebrates Tuesday night, May 14, with a banquet at the Trussville Civic Center and will be recognized at the Trussville City School Board meeting on Monday, May 20. The high school team had an undefeated 2024 season, culminating in their 5th State Championship title within nine race seasons. The middle school team claimed its second consecutive State Championship, remaining the sole Middle School State Champions since the middle school state championship began last year. With a roster of 43 riders, including both middle school and high school participants, the team competed against nearly 300 high school riders, over 250 middle school riders and 34 teams. Team Achievements: The season kicked off with a strong start as the HTHS team claimed first place in all five races, securing their lead for the state title. The HTMS team claimed 4 of the 5 races to secure the state title. From Historic Blakely State Park to Tannehill Historic State Park, the team conquered diverse terrains and challenges, blending flowing singletrack and doubletrack trails featuring roots, rocks, and narrow turns as they raced distances ranging from 12 to 23 miles per race. Individual Top 10 at the State Championship Race #5: Varsity Boys : Alex Davis,1st place; Noah Clark, 4th place; Conrad Jones, 5th place; Joshua Walker 6th in the 23-mile race. JV 1 Girls : Shazie Bryant 7th place in the 12- mile race. JV 1 Boys : Davis Sharp 1st place; Lelan Neal, 3rd place; and Teague Jones, 8th place in the 17 miles race. JV 2 Girls : Evelyn Murphree, 5th place in the 12-mile race. JV 2 Boys : Braden Smith, 7th place; Aiden Wordell, 9th place; and Nicholas Davis, 10th place in the 12-mile race. Freshman Girls : Evelyn Lolley (8th grade), with the fastest lap time of all high school girls, finished1st place in the 12-mile race. 8th Grade Boys : John Green, 7th place. 7th Grade Girls : Isabelle Garver, 2nd place; Lily Neal 7th place. 7th Grade Boys : Lenwood Jones, 1st place; Lleyton Sharp, 2nd place; Jude Lolley, 4th place; Abe Cox 7th place. 6th Grade Boys : Logan O’Dell, 4th place. The team recognized the team’s Senior riders, Shazie Bryant, Alex Davis, MaryAnn Dukes, Mark Dukes, and Joshua Walker, whose leadership and dedication have contributed to the team’s success.
