Over spring break, Demopolis softball's Ashton Moorer reached 1,000-career strikeouts at the Gulf Coast Classic.

The senior reached 1,000 strikeouts in a 4-0 loss to Fairhope on March 20. She was met with a banner in Gulf Shores celebrating her achievement, but on March 28, before the Tigers' game against Selma, Moorer was honored with a plaque for the achievement.

"I have been playing since I was in 7th grade, so I've worked really hard with my team and I couldn't do it without my team," Moorer said. "They've helped me reach my goal and pushed me to be a better player. I was really excited I got to share it with all the girls I have grown up with. Especially because I played tee-ball with two of them, so they have been there for every step of the way."

Moorer nearly reached 1,000 strikeouts the day before but ended up falling three strikeouts short. Going into the Fairhope game, she said, she felt she had a good chance of reaching 1,000.

"The first day I thought I was going to hit it in our last game," Moorer said. "I had three more (to get) until I hit it in the first game (vs. Fairhope) ... I had a pretty good feeling that I was going to get it, but I was pretty nervous."

Moorer reached 1,000 strikeouts on the second out in the second inning, but after she recorded the final out of the inning, her teammates met her in the circle to celebrate.

"It was the second out and nobody was on base (when I reached 1,000 strikeouts)," Moorer said. "I struck the final girl out and my team just came running to the circle. That was really good."

On the season, Moorer has pitched 94.1 innings going 9-6 from the circle. She has an ERA of 1.11 with 164 strikeouts and 18 walks. From the plate, she is batting .269 with an on-base percentage of .309 and a slugging percentage of .346.
