    Golf state tournament: TA girls win 1A-3A title, how other Tuscaloosa area teams finished

    For the second straight year, the Tuscaloosa Academy girls golf team won the AHSAA 1A-3A golf state title.

    The Knights finished the tournament shooting 21-over, 60 strokes ahead of Mobile Christian in second place (+81). The tournament was played across 27 holes at RTJ at the Shoals in Florence, Alabama. It was originally supposed to be 36 holes, but due to weather, the teams played nine holes on Tuesday, instead of the originally planned 18.

    Individually, Anna Christian Beeker shot +2 for a third-place finish. Saxon Skinner shot +6 for a fifth-place finish, while Maddie Grace Johnson finished tied for sixth shooting +13 and Kat Taylor finished +32, tying for 12th place.

    It also marks the second-straight season the Tuscaloosa Academy girls finished with the lowest team score across all classifications. The closest team to the Knights was UMS-Wright in 7A, which finished +21

    "I'm just real proud of their commitment," TA coach Scott Taylor said. "We are really fortunate to have four girls that really love to play and compete. They get along really well and push each other to get better, so it makes it easy on me to have that."

    Sipsey Valley's Rebecca Pearce finished +30 for a 13th-place finish in the 4A-5A competition. In 6A, Northridge's Rilee Hilliker's finished shooting +11 while Brookwood's Ella Roberts finished +22 for a 12th place finish.

    On the boys side, Fayette County came in fourth place in 3A with a team score of +26. The Tigers were led by Luke Anderson who finished tied for sixth in the individual competition along with Winfield's Elliot Overton, both finishing with a score of +9.

    The Demopolis boys finished as the runners-up in 5A, finishing with a total score of +52. Demopolis was led by Brantley Rice, who finished with a score of +10, along with Hunter Powell who tied for 10th with a score of +14.

    The Northridge boys came in third in 6A with a total score of +13. Caleb Terrell had the lowest individual score for the Jaguars, finishing +2 to tie for seventh place. Jace Duckworth finished in 11th place with a score of +3.
