Of the three chains, McDonald's had the steepest price increase for one of its food items.
From the end of 2019 to mid-2024, the price of a cheeseburger rose 215% from $1 to $3.15.
Another notable price hike is for a McChicken chicken sandwich, which rose 201.6% from $1.29 to $3.89.
The prices of medium fries, a Big Mac, and 10-piece McNuggets also increased by $2.40, $3.50, and $3.09, respectively.
MORE PRICE INCREASES
Taco Bell and Chick-fil-A fans also faced menu price hikes.
For example, a Beefy 5-layer Burrito from Taco Bell rose 118.3% from $1.69 to $3.69.
The Nachos BellGrande, Crunchwrap Supreme, Spicy Potato Soft Taco, and Cheesy Bean and Rice Burrito increased by $2.60, $1.80, $0.19, and $0.19, respectively.
The Chick-fil-A menu item that saw the greatest price hike over the past five years was eight-count nuggets, which rose 96.4% from $3.05 to $5.99.
The medium waffle fries, Deluxe Chicken Sandwich, four-count Chick-n-Strips, and large milkshake also rose by $1.34, $2.90, $3.46, and $2.04, respectively.
While both fast food chains saw inflated menu prices, McDonald's had the greatest price increases.
The average price increase across the five McDonald's items was 141.4%.
On the other hand, the average price increase for the Taco Bell items was 57.4% and the average increase for the Chick-fil-A items was 80.1%.
FOODIES REACT
Many fast foodies weren't shocked by the numbers.
One Redditor noted that having a cheap menu has been unrealistic for a while due to the rising cost of goods and labor.
They added that the pandemic and inflation provided fast food chains an opportunity to raise prices even more and that the chains added "greedflation" on top of it.
Other fast food fans bashed McDonald's for significantly raising its prices.
One customer noted that Wendy's was a better price with its five items for $5, while McDonald's was a "rip off."
"Sadly they are ‘too big to fail’ and people will keep eating there," they wrote.
