‘I won’t be going back,’ rages Walmart shopper forced out of line over checkout policy – she even counted items in cart

A WALMART customer has slammed the retailer for the recent update to its self-checkout policy, declaring they will shop elsewhere in the future.

Earlier this year, the store announced that only Walmart shoppers with 15 items or less can use the self-checkout.

And since this change, people have flocked to social media to express their frustration at the policy.

"Walmart really getting out of pocket," Kris Robyn wrote on Facebook.

She was approached by an employee who told her she had too many items to use the self-checkout desk.

"I immediately started counting my items in the cart [and] I said I have 3 items over," Robyn explained.

"She said you have to go to the cashier. I knew I was being TESTED by the devil.

"I started to leave everything in the cart [and] walk out and go straight to Target.

"I won't be going back to Walmart NO MORE," she declared.

Fellow shoppers jumped to the comments to sympathise with Robyn.

"They do too much at Walmart. I can't stand the self-checkouts," one user wrote.

"I literally had 17 items... and they only had 1 line with a cashier open," another shopper complained.

Walmart says that this updated system is supposed to speed up the checkout system for shoppers, but many seem to disagree.

The 15 item or less policy, however, is not universal. It seems that it's down to each individual store to decide whether they want to implement this change or not.

Walmart claims that the new checkout process has been designed to help customers complete their shopping more quickly.

But customers across the US are not happy.

The policy seems to be driving some customers away.

    Latest self-checkout changes

Retailers are evolving their self-checkout strategy in an effort to speed up checkout times and reduce theft.

Walmart shoppers were shocked when self-checkout lanes at various locations were made available only for Walmart+ members.

Other customers reported that self-checkout was closed during specific hours, and more cashiers were offered instead.

While shoppers feared that shoplifting fueled the updates, a Walmart spokesperson revealed that store managers are simply experimenting with ways to improve checkout performance.

One bizarre experiment included an RFID-powered self-checkout kiosk that would stop the fiercely contested receipt checks.

However, that test run has been phased out.

At Target, items are being limited at self-checkout.

Last fall, the brand surveyed new express self-checkout lanes across 200 stores with 10 items or less for more convenience.

As of March 2024, this policy has been expanded across 2,000 stores in the US.

Shoppers have also spotted their local Walmart stores restricting customers to 15 items or less to use self-checkout machines.

"Okay Walmart, WTF are you doing? They say let's get self-checkouts it will be more convenient... they say card only... Now it's 15 items or less at self-checkout... when does this s**t stop!!!!

"Make up your friggin minds," a Walmart customer wrote on Facebook.

The U.S. Sun has reached out to Walmart for a comment.

Other retailers such as Target have also implemented similar policies recently.

The chain imposed a 10-item or less limit on shoppers using the self-checkout earlier this year.

Customers were similarly outraged with this policy, airing their irritations on social media.

"Who leaves Target with less than 10 items?!" one user commented.

"Not possible, I don't think I can leave without spending at least $200," another customer said in response.

Do like I do get the largest cart and fill it with ice cream products then when they tell me to switch lines I go hide the cart full and leave let them clean up the mess.
