A WALMART customer is outraged after being barred from entering the store when he arrived 15 minutes before closing time.

The disgruntled shopper voiced his complaints to corporate and on social media.

In July 2024, Scott Bogulski claimed on Facebook that he was denied entry into the Forsyth, Georgia Walmart when he arrived at 10:45 pm — 15 minutes before closing — after he "drove 20 minutes to get there."

He said in the post, "Per corporate, if the store is advertised as being open until 11, they are to let people in all the way up until 11."

Bogulski then claimed that while a store employee named Bundy says that policy allows them to deny people entry, the woman he spoke with from corporate said this is false.

"She took the complaint and said she escalated it to a higher level, and a return phone call will be coming at some point."

Bogulski said he was told Bundy is "the older man" who does receipt checks at the door and that Karen is the manager "who told Bundy he was enforcing a good policy."

Many customers defended Walmart and Bundy in the comments.

Emily Page said that it's "crazy" Bogulski is "still mad about it."

She continued, "Dennis, the store manager, will not do anything about it I'm sure he's given him a pat on the back saying 'hell yeah thank you for cutting down overtime' lmao."

Carrie Penfield Johnson then called Bundy "the nicest man" who "makes us feel so welcome every time we go to Walmart."

She continued, "I sure hope this doesn't fall on him."

Christine Thayer said stores wouldn't deny entry if shoppers "would be more respectful of store closing times."

She then called out people who get to the store five minutes before closing and continue shopping after hours.

"This causes the store employees to be in the store past the time they're scheduled, which then means they have to cut payroll later in the week to make up for that," she continued.

"Then because payroll had to be cut, customers will complain because there's not enough people working."

Walmart is typically open daily from 6 am to 11 pm.

However, hours may vary by location, so shoppers should check with their local store.

What is Walmart's Scan and Go?

Walmart's Scan and Go was made to save time for shoppers

Walmart's Scan and Go system was created to help customers scan items as they shop, pay, and leave without waiting in long checkout lines.

The retailer describes the new system to be done in a few easy steps:

    • Customers first need to have the Walmart app downloaded on their phones with their location access enabled.
    • On the Store Mode landing page, shoppers must click the Scan and Go option.
    • Customers can scan each item and place them in their carts as they shop.
    • At the end, they'll be prompted to view the cart to make sure the quantity on the app matches the ones in their carts.
    • Shoppers will press "Check Out" and head to a self-checkout kiosk.
    • They'll be prompted to scan the provided QR code at the register and confirm their payment method.
    • Once the transaction is complete, shoppers can leave the store without worry.

    RECEIPT RAGE

In Bogulski's first post about his Walmart issue, he called out the retail chain's controversial receipt check measures.

"If Walmart stops allowing customers to come in 15 minutes before closing to make it more convenient for them….It's more convenient for me to walk right past the receipt asker person too," he wrote.

Other customers also complained about the policy in the comments.

"Just hand it off and keep walking," Maranda Bailey wrote.

A shopper named Ronald commented, "I already walk past them."

Felecia Smith said Walmart workers don't ask for her receipt unless she has an unbagged item.

"I've been a smart a** at times and put a bag on the item. I was never bothered," she continued.

The retail corporation has faced widespread backlash for its receipt checks.

Some shoppers have cited the law to avoid showing their receipts.

Another customer questioned why the retail giant uses self-checkout if people have to show their receipts.
