A LOTTERY player struck major luck when they won a $200,000 win they would put toward a new home.

The winner and their partner, from upstate South Carolina, explained how they would have lost out on a life-changing sum of money if they did not make a second check.

This pair, who wished to remain anonymous, purchased a $5 Double Sided Dollars Extra Play lottery scratch-off ticket.

The slip was bought at a convenience store in Spartanburg, around 70 miles southeast of Charlotte, North Carolina.

This couple purchased the ticket at a Circle K store on E. Main St, according to the South Carolina Education Lottery.

The wife explained that she initially threw the ticket away thinking it was a loser.

Her husband realized her mistake when he spotted the slip in the trash.

“You have a 12 on it,” he recalled shouting to his wife.

The slip had not been fully scratched before it was thrown away.

She scratched out the rest of the slip to reveal they had won the huge prize.

They visited the state's lottery offices to claim their prize.

The couple told lottery officials they would use the money to buy a new home.

They beat the one in 750,000 odds to win the game's top prize.

This new game first went for sale on March 19, 2024.

Another lottery player could also share the same lucky fate as this couple as there is still one more top prize up for grabs.

There are also 32 second-place prizes worth $1,000 available.
