A FRUSTRATED Walmart shopper has slammed the retailer’s receipt checks, arguing they are a futile measure.

Walmart customers across the US have complained about these checks for quite some time and many are now fed up.

“I feel irrationally annoyed with the ‘door police ‘ at Walmart when I’m walking out with one $3 item and they want me to stop to have my receipt inspected,” one shopper wrote in a post on Facebook .

“I just had to check myself out – while a dazed-and-confused employee pretends to watch – so I’m in no mood to have someone ask me for papers when I walk 10 feet from a register.

“It’s a horribly designed checkout procedure that’s getting more insufferable every year.”

Receipt checks have become more frequent for many retailers across the US.

The measures are designed to crack down on shoplifting, but many customers think they are a waste of time.

“#boycott,” a shopper wrote under the post.

And they are not the only one to make such a suggestion.

Many are growing tired of the restrictions and have considered shopping elsewhere.

“Maybe we need to boycott Walmart,” another customer wrote on Facebook.

“What is the point of checking my ticket? A ticket means I paid for my items,” another frustrated shopper said .

“They should keep an eye out on those that walk out without a ticket.”

Walmart is not the only retailer to have implemented these unpopular anti-theft measures.

Kroger has also come under fire from angry shoppers.

“I think it’s wrong because even subconsciously it makes everyone feel like they are being looked at like criminals,” one Kroger shopper said on X.

Top 5 receipt checking tips from a lawyer

Camron Dowlatshahi, a Los Angeles attorney, spoke to The U.S. Sun about receipt checks and customer's rights and options when it came to being asked to show your receipt.

    1. There has been a lot of debate around the legality of a retailer asking to see your receipt, but if it is within the store, it is completely legal. “There’s seemingly nothing illegal about that. You’re still on the company’s premises and their reason to do it is to prevent thefts,” Dowlatshahi confirms.
    2. However, if they are chasing you out of the store, that changes things, Dowlatshahi said. “Location matters,” he explained. “If you’re outside of the store you’re in the parking lot and they come and start accusing you of theft and that you have to show your receipt, I think that’s a bit of a different situation because now you’re on your way.”
    3. While customers are allowed to say no to receipt checks, it may cause issues if you do and the store suspects you of stealing. “You can say no, maybe it creates an unnecessary hassle for yourself because now you may have the police come to your house and follow up,” said Dowlatshahi.
    4. If you are being barred from leaving a store because you refused a receipt check, you could have a legal case — but the store must have held you for a long time. “Let’s say it’s for hours, that’s certainly false imprisonment, and they didn’t have any impetus for doing so,” Dowlatshahi explained. “If a customer has been emotionally traumatized by being held for false imprisonment, I would definitely encourage [them] to sue.”
    5. “I would say, show your receipt,” he concluded. “It’s just a really simple thing to do. If you didn’t steal anything, it’s relatively simple to do,” the lawyer advised.

(According to Camron Dowlatshahi , a founding partner at Mills Sadat Dowlat LLP )

“You get checked on your way out after giving these companies your hard-earned money .”

Other Kroger shoppers believe that the receipt checks are entirely ineffective.

“All they do is take your receipt and mark it with a sharpie,” another said on X .

“They don’t check your bags to make sure it matches your purchases, so it is absolutely no deterrent or solution to shoplifting.

“All it does is delay and aggravate customers.”

Some customers have started to ignore the receipt checks altogether.

“I keep walking because if you trust me to check my own self out you better all the way trust me,” a frustrated shopper said.

“I always walk past the receipt checkers. They can not physically stop you,” another declared.

“You don’t actually have to let them check your receipt,” one customer explained.

“You can simply say “no thanks”, or nothing, and keep walking.

“Walmart’s policy is non-confrontation; this entire scheme is theatre to suppress shoplifting, it has no actual teeth .”
