I laid vinyl tiles in my rental flat & a £1.75 hack stops them ruining the floor underneath – it protects from mould too

A WOMAN has revealed how she transformed her rented flat using a DIY must-have.
Shelby Turner took to social media to show off how she used stick-on tiles to revamp her closet and take them off without damaging the floors.
In the clip, she said: "A few months ago I laid the shower curtain liner under my peel and stick tiles and today I am removing them."
The tiles had started to chip away so she decided to take them off, starting with tape to hold them down.
The DIY whizz revealed that the tape had left no residue on the floor which meant she didn't have to get down and scrub it clean.
Next, she moved on to peeling off the floor tiles which could easily come off in one piece thanks to the shower liner underneath.
Because the closet door was in the way, she couldn't pull the whole thing up so she cut the tiles to get them off.
Shelby revealed she used Gorilla Glue to stick the shower liner to the tiles.
You can buy a shower liner for £1.75 in Ikea and she revealed it was perfect to ensure you didn't damage the floorboards underneath.
She added: "I think this might be the easiest removal process I have ever done with one of these renter friendly project."
The DIY pro also said that the technique meant there was no mould or moisture getting in between the tiles and affecting the floors underneath.
Shelby was so impressed by the method she revealed she would be using it on other floors in the home too.
The clip went viral on her TikTok account @itsmeshelbyturner with over 1 million views and 59k likes.
People were quick to thank her for sharing the 'genius' hack.
One person wrote: "Finally! A real renter friendly DIY."
Another commented: "How does this do when mopping? Doesn’t water get underneath? Curious because I love this idea."
Renter-friendly DIY tasks
Temporary Shelving:
Use freestanding shelves or tension rod shelving units to add storage space. These options don’t require drilling holes into the walls, making them ideal for renters.
Removable Hooks and Strips:
Command hooks and strips are lifesavers for hanging artwork, photos, or even lightweight shelves. They hold securely but can be removed without leaving any marks or holes.
Area Rugs and Runners:
Cover unattractive flooring or protect existing floors with stylish area rugs and runners. They can add warmth and personality to any room and are easily transportable when you move.
Change Cabinet Hardware:
These projects can make a big difference in how your rental space feels and functions, all while ensuring you get your security deposit back when you move out.
"I just spray and wipe them down with a cloth but for extra protection you can add a clear silicone between the tiles," Shelby replied.
"Oh my god that's so smart!!!! my jaw literally dropped too, that pick up was so satisfying," penned a third.
Meanwhile a fourth said: "A fricking genius."
