In a video from February, Anglin explained how to profit by taking on transcription as a side hustle.
Transcription writing is the process of converting spoken words from an audio or video recording into written text.
She noted that the remote side hustle can be done at nighttime and can pay over $3,000 each month.
GETTING STARTED
Anglin suggested using the Daily Transcription website and selecting “Become a Freelancer” at the bottom of the homepage.
One of the job vacancies on the website is for the General Transcription role.
“We are seeking native English-speaking Transcribers who have excellent listening and typing skills to develop accurate texts from audio or video files,” reads the job description.
“The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently delivering high-quality transcripts in a timely manner.”
Anglin pointed out that Daily Transcription was currently hiring and seeking freelancers to work from 10 to 30 hours per week.
The side hustle pays $45 to $66 per hour of material.
She estimated the profit potential of transcribing, calculating $825 per week for working 15 hours weekly at $55 an hour.
Anglin noted that transcribing at that rate would make $3,300 per month.
Other positions such as AI Editor, Medical Transcriber, and Subtitler & Captioner are also available on the website and have the potential to make even more profit.
HUSTLE HESITANCY
TikTok users pointed out a few concerns with the side hustle, including the need to pay for a course in transcription.

The Daily Transcription website lists several relevant skills for the General Transcription role:

Others, however, shared that a course was only necessary if you were new to transcription.
“If you have experience you can bypass the course,” said one user.
Another commenter took issue with the pay rate.
“It’s per media hour. It takes like four hours to transcribe an hour of media,” they said.
