‘Joke of a company’ fumes Uber Eats customer over hours-long delivery delay – and threatens to switch & ‘never go back’

    By Alexandra Chomik,

AN UBER Eats customer is furious after the food delivery service allegedly refused to offer a full refund for their delayed order.

The customer claims they received their Uber Eats order after an hours-long delay, only to be told they would be getting just a few dollars back for their patience.

X user Tmar vented their frustrations on the social media platform.

“@UberEats is an absolute joke of a company!!!” they wrote .

“Offering 5 dollar refund after 3 hour delay of food when I requested jusy [sic] my money back…. Now my membership is canceled!!”

The Uber Eats customer told their followers and fellow X users they waited three hours for their delivery to arrive.

By that point, the food was probably cold and perhaps even inedible.

They also confirmed they were canceling their membership, likely referring to Uber One .

    UBER DONE

Uber One is a subscription service that offers customers savings on Uber and Uber Eats.

Monthly memberships will set users back $9.99, while annual memberships cost $96.

Along with regular promotions and offers, Uber One members enjoy a variety of perks, including:

    • $0 delivery fees at select restaurants and grocery stores with a minimum order of $15 or $35, respectively
    • 10% off eligible restaurant delivery and pickup orders
    • 5% off eligible grocery delivery orders
    • Earning 6% Uber Cash on eligible rides

On average, Uber One members save $25 per month compared to non-members.

“I will never go back and will ensure none of my friends go either!” Tmar added.

Tmar claimed they would not only cancel their Uber One membership but also never use Uber Eats as a non-Uber One member again.

Word of mouth is a low-to-no-cost way of boosting brand awareness – and profits – so Tmar’s decision to tell their friends to avoid the delivery service may be yet another setback for the once-popular app.

    What is Uber One?

    https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=0fuKL7_0uqccsvX00

Uber fans can enroll in the subscription to cut down the cost of food deliveries and car rides.

Uber One is a subscription service that offers benefits like savings on Uber and Uber Eats.

Monthly memberships start at $9.99, while annual memberships begin at $96 (all in USD).

Uber One also has partnerships with third parties that offer a discounted membership to some users.

Uber One subscribers receive a $0 delivery fee plus up to 10% off eligible orders on restaurants and stores marked with the gold Uber One icon.

They’ll also get member pricing on eligible rides.

Users can purchase their subscription directly in the Uber app.

Uber and Uber Eats allow Uber One members to cancel their memberships at any time, without any fees or penalties.

Members should cancel their membership up to 48 hours before their next scheduled payment to avoid further charges.

Monthly and annual members will continue receiving membership benefits until the end of their current billing period.

    RESTAURANT DELIVERY RIVALS

“@Seamless here I come!!” Tmar added alongside a partying face emoji.

One of Uber Eat’s biggest competitors is Seamless, another food delivery and takeout service app.

The company is powered by Grubhub , which owns a proprietary food ordering, takeout, and delivery platform.

Seamless members can choose to subscribe to Grubhub+ , a similar subscription service to Uber One.

Grubhub+ members also receive $0 delivery fees, lower service fees, 5% cash back on pickup orders, and exclusive offers and more savings.

Memberships cost $9.99 per month, same as Uber One’s monthly membership fee.

Despite the similarities between the two apps, the “better” option largely depends on a customer’s favorite or most-ordered restaurants.

Not all restaurants participate in Grubhub+ or Uber One, with some preferring one over the other.

Other delivery services, like DoorDash , Postmates, ChowNow, and GoPuff each have their own unique memberships or delivery and service fees.

They also have their own unique discounts and promos, eligible at participating restaurants.

One customer’s favorite restaurant may be cheaper to order on DoorDash, for example, while another customer may find Uber Eats to have more overall options to choose from.

    Top Grocery Delivery Apps:

Shoppers can save time by getting someone else to get their groceries for them using a variety of apps and services.

Instacart : Works with major retailers including Albertsons, ALDI, Costco, CVS, Kroger, Sam’s Club, and Wegmans. Groceries can be delivered as quickly as one hour and can be arranged to suit your schedule. However, prices can differ compared to those that are in-store. There is a $99 per year or $9.99 per month membership fee.

Amazon Fresh : This is an off-shoot of Amazon. It offers customers fresh groceries and household goods. The service works similarly to Instacart and offers same-day delivery and exclusive offers to those with Amazon Prime.

Walmart Grocery : Walmart shoppers can place orders via the Walmart app and either pick them up or have them delivered to their door. The retailer calls it “the easiest way to shop.”

Shipt : Membership costs $99 per year with unlimited free deliveries on orders over $35. It enables customers to speak directly with their assigned Shipt shoppers to make special requests. The company also works closely with Target.

Kroger Delivery : Kroger shoppers can get their groceries taken to their door at a delivery time that suits them. It also offers customers the chance to spend digital coupons so they do not miss out on key deals. However, the retailer’s service does not offer same-day delivery.

Target Same-Day Delivery : Orders can arrive within a few hours of being placed. Shoppers can get real-time updates on their orders which will allow for last-minute changes and special requests. Target states that there are “no delivery markups” and Target Circle deals are included. Shoppers can pay per delivery or become a Target Circle 360 member for unlimited deliveries.

    CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS

Many of Tmar’s followers and fellow X users empathized with their experience, sharing their own complaints and offering advice for the hangry customer.

“Unbelievable! I’ll never use @UberEats again!!!” one X user wrote.

“@DoorDash never does this to me… clearly superior to @UberEats in every way,” another user shared, adding, “I’m never using #UberEats ever again.”

“This display of unprofessionalism and lack of care or customer service is disgusting!!!” another user wrote.

Uber and Uber Eats did not comment on Tmar’s post.

The U.S. Sun has reached out to Uber Eats for comment and is awaiting a reply.

According to Uber’s website , customers receive two delivery estimates, including an estimated time of delivery, and a “latest arrival by” estimate.

The estimated time of delivery is the “earliest delivery time for your order,” and “may adjust during your order due to external factors.”

Uber considers external factors like weather conditions, traffic, increased demand, and a lower amount of available drivers.

The latest arrival by estimate is the “best estimated delivery time for your order based on similar orders.”

The company does state that orders that arrive before the “latest arrival by” time are considered “on time” regardless of how long the deliveries took.

Uber also states that as long as an order arrives on or before the “latest arrival by” time, it is “ineligible for credits or refunds.”

It’s unclear when Tmar ordered, and whether their order arrived before or after the latest arrival by time.

    DELIVERY DILEMMAS

This isn’t the first complaint customers have made about a food delivery app.

One DoorDash customer also shared their complaints on X, claiming their order was missing an item.

They claim DoorDash failed to reimburse them for the missing item, and only offered a partial refund that didn’t cover the item’s cost.

Some consumers have also begun speculating that delivery services are behind the rising prices of fast-casual restaurants and fast-food chains.
