Many could argue Richardson was the reason the women’s 4x100m team advanced to the final after multiple mistakes.
Team USA sprinter Gabby Thomas nearly mishandled her baton exchange with Twanisha Terry.
Once Richardson received the baton she was already three steps behind Germany’s Rebekka Haase.
But the American sprinter did not give up and helped Team USA overcome Germany with a time of 41.94 seconds.
Team USA edged out Germany by .19 seconds and now Richardson’s dream of winning a gold medal is still alive.
The women’s 4x100m relay final will take place on Friday, August 9 at 1:30 pm Eastern.
Although the U.S. does not officially confirm who is in the race, Richardson will likely be in the lineup.
After failing to qualify for the women’s 200m race in the summer Richardson made the most of her opportunity on Saturday for a medal in the 100m event.
The Texas-born sprinter finished second behind Saint Lucia’s Julien Alfred, who bested the American by 0.15 seconds in the women’s 100-meter final on Saturday.
Alfred’s victory gave Saint Lucia its first-ever Olympic medal.
But the 24-year-old sprinter won silver, securing her first-ever Olympic medal.
After the win, Richardson celebrated with a post on her Instagram.
