“Dear Walmart,” the social media post began.

“I just spent $96 on house cleaning supplies and left out with only 3 bags and a broom.”

“One lady watched me ring up everything then another wanted to check my receipt on the way out for the broom,” he continued.

“Both could have rang me up. Neither could catch me if I was indeed stealing and started running.”

“Next time we will all get a workout cause I’m going to run. Your going to work for this receipt buddy,” he concluded.

Many of the user’s friends echoed his sentiment.

“I don’t show them s**t,” one person commented.

“I tell them to run ya cameras back and walk right out the door.”

“I always walk past them when they ask for my receipt,” said a second person.

“Like y’all just watched me ring up all this s**t then ask for a receipt.”

The policy, which began as a method of attempting to prevent theft, has since spiraled out of control leaving several paying customers fuming.

In retaliation, many paying customers have started simply walking out of the store while refusing to stop for the checker.

In one instance, one loyal shopper said that he was chased by the door greeter into the store’s parking lot after refusing to show them his receipt.

Walmart's Scan and Go was made to save time for shoppers

Walmart’s Scan and Go system was created to help customers scan items as they shop, pay, and leave without waiting in long checkout lines.

The retailer describes the new system to be done in a few easy steps:

    • Customers first need to have the Walmart app downloaded on their phones with their location access enabled.
    • On the Store Mode landing page, shoppers must click the Scan and Go option.
    • Customers can scan each item and place them in their carts as they shop.
    • At the end, they’ll be prompted to view the cart to make sure the quantity on the app matches the ones in their carts.
    • Shoppers will press “Check Out” and head to a self-checkout kiosk.
    • They’ll be prompted to scan the provided QR code at the register and confirm their payment method.
    • Once the transaction is complete, shoppers can leave the store without worry.

“I haven’t been in a Walmart in years for this reason,” the shopper wrote on X.

“In 2018 I had no idea they check receipts so I just walked out with my stuff that I paid for.

“I wasn’t halfway to the car before security came chasing after me making a scene like I was shoplifting.

“Worst part was I had tossed my receipt already so I had to go back in and verify it was all paid for.”

However, it appears that this is not the first time customers have said that they have encountered an over-aggressive employee.

In 2019, one customer managed to film a confrontation between themselves and a store employee while in the store’s parking lot.

“I don’t have to show you my receipt,” the man said in a video uploaded to YouTube .

“Actually, you do,” an employee replied.

Finally, after a long back-and-forth, the shopper handed over the receipt.
