AS the Paris Olympics comes to a close, the Games have once again provided a stunning array of stories.

From medal shocks, heroic comebacks and agonising heartbreak, the Olympics have delivered once again.

But the story is perhaps best told by the images captured by photographers at the Games.

Even from the rain-soaked Opening Ceremony in the French capital, the snappers have been in top form.

They captured the majesty of Paris during the four-hour-long floating opening ceremony on the River Seine before Celine Dion performed at the Eiffel Tower.

Snappers also caught the weather conditions in full flow, with one picture capturing the Paris landmark lit up at night as lightning zipped across the background.

However, the Games themselves were not to be outdone.

Although ironically maybe the best of the bunch did not come in Paris, but instead in Tahiti.

Surfing bronze medalist Gabriel Medina was captured floating in midair after his Olympic record wave score in the Pacific on July 29.

Back in Paris, one of the most striking pics was the laid-back pose made by Turkey ‘s Air Pistol silver medalist Yusuf Dikec.

Dikec struck a casual stance as he aimed his pistol with his other hand in his pocket, unlike many of his rivals who wore eye lenses to aid their medal hopes.

The men’s 100m sprint final was arguably the most highly anticipated event of the games after American Noah Lyles thrust himself into the spotlight with his criticism of the NBA’s World Champion tag.

And the final certainly lived up to the billing, as Lyles won gold by just 0.005 seconds as all eight sprinters finished with times below 10 seconds, captured by a photo showing how the race went

Team USA’s legendary gymnast Simone Biles also made her own comeback at the Games, adding three golds and one silver to an already impressive Olympic career.

Yet it was her silver medal pose with compatriot Jordan Chiles (now stripped of bronze) and Brazil gold medalist Rebeca Andrade, where the Americans posed as if they were presenting the winner, that captured the Olympic spirit.

Another moment on the medal podium showed as Yaqin Zhou of China glanced at Italian gold and bronze medallists Alice D’Amato and Manila Esposito biting their medals before doing the same.

Team GB had its own share of iconic moments.

From the pic of Kelly Hodgkinson crossing the line for gold in the women’s 800m, Emily Campbell achieving bronze in the women’s weightlifting to Kimberly Woods winning silver and bronze in the women’s Slalom events.

There was also the men’s and women’s 4x100m winning bronze and silver respectively and sharing a group photo trackside and Toby Roberts’ shock win in the climbing for Team GB’s 14th gold medal.

Gymnastics, diving, swimming, sailing, boxing, skateboarding, kite, equestrian and many more also had their moments in the spotlight.

And now we have to wait four long years to do it all again.
