A MECHANIC explained how he was able to earn $14,000 a month without putting his head under the hood of a car.

Chris Pyle, 45, said he quit his job at Ford and has been able build a second home because he took his side hustle full time.

Pyle has worked as an at-home mechanic for over a decade, where he answers people’s car questions online.

He said his unique job started when he signed on to use the website JustAnswer.com after accidentally coming across it, according to CNBC .

Pyle explained that he was employed by Ford and trained as a transmission tech.

During his studies he stumbled across the website, as he looked for an answer for himself, and then signed up to answer some questions in 2006.

The mechanic shared that he made $500 in his first month and this sum kept on doubling each month.

Pyle quit his $75,000-a-year job in 2012, after his earnings on the site surpassed his salary.

He shared that he made $170,500 in 2023 which comes to a huge $14,200 a month.

The expert advice-giver said he answers people’s questions about their gas and diesel engine issues from the comfort of his recliner.

Pyle added that he has had to work eight to 10 hours a day and not take a day off, including Christmas Day and his birthday, to maintain his high income.

This is because he is paid by the answer, rather than an hourly or daily wage.

JustAnswer.com decides how much it will pay its experts by grading them each week.

Despite this, Pyle said a huge perk was that he was able to set his own schedule and decide when he wants to start and end his day.

He explained that this has had a major positive impact on his family life.

“I was a Cub Scout master for eight years … I was a soccer coach,” Pyle said.

How does this side hustle work?

JustAnswer.com has allowed curious people the opportunity to ask experts questions online to find a quick and easy solution to their problems.

Experts need to apply online with their relevant ID and licences or certifications.

They can then start to make money once background checks have been completed.

Experts can choose the questions they answer.

They are then graded each week, to determine how much they will be paid per answer.

These people are then paid monthly.

There are no scheduled shifts so experts can choose their own hours and shift patterns.

“I could log off right now and go play a video game with my son, or go swim in the pool.”

Pyle has explained which major purchases he has been able to make through his new source of income.

The at-home mechanic bought a 34-acre plot of land for $130,000 in Dickson County, Tennessee , as well as a RV for his wife.

Pyle added that he also planned to build a second home for himself and his family, and said he would cut down his hours after that project was done.

“I have zero plans to go back for a real job, unless I’m the boss,” Pyle said.

“Between my work attire and the environment that I work in, [life] is pretty good.”

    EXTRA CASH

Side-hustlers have shared the varied ways they have made extra money, The U.S. Sun has previously reported.

A TikToker revealed that she made $317 in less than two hours by talking ordinary photos.
