    BBC confirm details of new midweek Match of the Day-style show with Champions League highlights and no Gary Lineker

    FOOTBALL fans will be able to enjoy free-to-air highlights of the Champions League this season after the BBC announced their European football show.

    The Beeb have revealed details of their new Champions League highlights show that will start this term.

    The national broadcaster has agreed a three-year deal with Uefa to put together match-by-match highlights of the Champions League this season.

    Europe’s elite competition is entering a brand new era this season as it expands from 32 teams to 36 and switches to a league-style format in the early stages.

    The BBC have revealed that from 10pm on the Wednesday of Champions League matchweeks fans will be able to watch highlights of all the games on BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sports website and app.

    While the broadcaster will also show their very own highlights show on BBC One at 10:40pm on the same evening.

    Their Uefa coverage coverage will start this week too with a special highlights show following Wednesday’s Super Cup final between Real Madrid and Atalanta.

    The BBC are yet to confirm who will head up their new highlights show, but it won’t be Match of the Day star Gary Lineker.

    Lineker, 63, has just 12 months remaining on his contract with the iconic channel.

    Despite Lineker doing a stand-up job on MOTD for the past 25 years, it seems he is being snubbed for the BBC’s new Champions League show.

    Instead Gabby Logan has been lined up to take centre stage on fans’ TV screens.

    That’s according to the Telegraph , who claim that Lineker was never given a formal offer to host the show despite talks taking place.

    Gabby Logan started presenting for the BBC in 2007 as she worked covering FA Cup games.

    She has also had experience presenting on different sports such as rugby, athletics and the London Marathon – while also being among the lead hosts of the recent Paris Olympics.
