2024 has seen us bid farewell to several beloved celebrities.
We take a moment to reflect on the celebrities who have passed away this year so far and celebrate the remarkable lives they led.
Which celebrities died in August 2024?
Graham Thorpe
Graham Thorpe took his own life PA
England cricket hero Graham Thorpe passed away on August 4.
The sportsman died after he took his own life.
Graham’s grieving wife Amanda told The Times : “Despite having a wife and two daughters whom he loved and who loved him, he did not get better.
“He was so unwell in recent times and he really did believe that we would be better off without him.”
Charles Cyphers

Halloween star Charles Cyphers died at the age of 85 on August 4.
His manager, Chris Roe, confirmed that the actor had a brief illness.
“Charles was a lovable and sensitive man,” Chris told Variety .
“He always had the best stories, and you got a full performance while he told you. He was a close friend and client of many years who will be dearly missed.”
Charles played Sheriff Leigh Brackett in the 1978 Halloween film.

Neighbours actress Janet Andrewartha died aged 72 BBC
Neighbours legend Janet Andrewartha died aged 72 on July 27.
Janet was best known for her role as Lyn Scully in the hit Australian soap from 1999 to 2006.
Neighbours paid tribute to Janet on its official Instagram page soon after the news was announced.
In a post, it wrote: “Everyone at Neighbours is deeply saddened by the passing of Janet Andrewartha.
“Beloved by viewers for her role as Ramsay Street’s Lyn Scully, Janet will be remembered for her wide body of work, which includes her memorable turn as Reb Keane in Prisoner: Cell Block H.”
Bill Arthur
Sky Sports announced rugby league commentator Bill Arthur had passed away Alamy
Sky Sports said the former rugby league commentator had passed away following a long battle with prostate cancer.
He died on July 24, with tributes pouring in for the much-loved star.
Ysanne Churchman
The Archers star Ysanne Churchman died at the age of 99 Alamy
The Archers star Ysanne Churchman died at the age of 99 after a career spanning 50 years.
The actress, who voiced Grace Archer in the Radio 4 drama in the 1950s, died peacefully at home on July 4, a statement from the BBC on behalf of her family said.

Donald Sutherland died aged 88 PA
Legendary actor Donald Sutherland died at the age of 88 on June 20.
He was best known for parts in The Dirty Dozen, M*A*S*H, and most recently as President Snow in The Hunger Games series.
Sutherland was a father of five, including Emmy Award-winning actor Kiefer, veteran CAA Media Finance executive Roeg, actors Angus and Rossif, and daughter Rachel.

Filmmaker Morgan Spurlock, the mastermind behind the Oscar-nominated documentary Super Size Me, died at age 53 on May 24.
The documentary followed Spurlock for 30 days, during which he ate McDonald’s every day for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
By the end of the experiment, the then-32-year-old Spurlock claimed he had gained 25 pounds, saw a spike in his cholesterol level, and suffered from depression and liver dysfunction.
Sam Rubin

This Morning entertainment reporter Sam Rubin died on May 10.
The TV star, 64, who was also a longtime anchor for KTLA news in the States, suffered a fatal heart attack.
The much-loved actress played Miss Moneypenny alongside Sean Connery in the 007 film Never Say Never Again.
Pamela also appeared in EastEnders, Doctor Who, ER and The West Wing over her long career.
Robin Windsor

Strictly Come Dancing star Robin Windsor died aged 44 on February 20.
The professional dancer finished runner-up in the 2012 series of the hit BBC show with actress Lisa Riley .
Robin first appeared on the BBC series with Patsy Kensit in 2010, reaching week nine of the competition, before being eliminated at the same stage with EastEnders legend Anita Dobson two years later.
The comedian played Kevin Bishop in the UK version of the classic sitcom starring Ricky Gervais .
Ewen’s portrayal of the deadpan accountant was praised for a string of comedy moments – including dressing as Ali G.
Steve Wright
Steve Wright tragically passed away aged 69 BBC
BBC Radio 2 DJ Steve Wright tragically died aged 69 on February 12, after bringing joy to listeners for more than 40 years.
The veteran DJ presented Steve Wright in the Afternoon and fronted Top of the Pops.
He also presented the popular Sunday Love Songs mid-morning show on Radio 2.
Henry Fambrough

Legendary Motown singer Henry Fambrough “died peacefully” at his home at the age of 85 on February 7.
The star was the last surviving original member of the hit group The Spinners.
Henry’s death came just months after The Spinners was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Michael Jayston
Michael Jayston died aged 88 after a ‘short illness’ EPO Online
Only Fools and Horses star Michael Jayston died aged 88 after a “short illness”.
He played Raquel’s father in Only Fools and starred as Valeyard, the Doctor’s dark side, in Doctor Who.
He also made appearances in EastEnders, Coronation Street and Emmerdale.
Toby Keith

Legendary country star Toby Keith, 62, was surrounded by his family when he died on February 5.
Keith revealed in June 2022 that he had been diagnosed with stomach cancer and had been receiving chemotherapy and other treatments.

Ian Lavender

He played Private Pike in the hit BBC sitcom and was the last surviving member of the cast.
In later years Ian had also become a popular character in the BBC soap EastEnders playing Derek Harkinson.
A Place in the Sun presenter Jonnie Irwin died aged 50 on February 2, after enduring a gruelling battle with lung cancer.
Jonnie , 50, was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2020 – a week after filming the popular show in Italy .
Tragically, the cancer spread to his brain and in 2022 Jonnie revealed he had just six months to live.

Crossroads star Charmian Abrahams died aged 96 after being hit by a delivery van.
The actress – best known for playing Mavis Hooper in the soap – died in Harborne, Birmingham , on January 15.
In a statement – released through West Midlands Police – the family said: “We are devastated that her life has been brought to an end so suddenly and tragically, but we will treasure our memories of her zest for life and the many good times we shared with her.”
Annie Nightingale

Radio 1 DJ Annie Nightingale passed away aged 83 on January 11.
The trailblazing presenter became the first female DJ on the station in 1970 – launching the careers of dozens of unknown artists.
Her family paid tribute to the “pioneer, trailblazer and an inspiration to many” as she passed away at her home in London after a “short illness”.
Georgina Hale

Actress Georgina Hale died aged 80 on January 4, after an incredible TV and theatre career spanning 50 years.
The star performer was known for a host of roles and featured on hit shows Emmerdale and Hollyoaks.
Her performance in Mahler (1974) was rewarded with a Bafta film award as most promising newcomer.
