America’s Got Talent’s Alex Sampson reveals next round performance plans and tells all on his ‘nerve-racking’ audition

AMERICA’S Got Talent contestant Alex Sampson won the hearts of the judges when he performed his original song on the competition show.

In an exclusive interview with The U.S. Sun, Alex, 20, talked about how nervous he was during his audition, what he plans on singing next, and upcoming releases.

The AGT contestant said that he sent in a video audition in October 2023 and didn’t hear anything for a while.

But, then the producers reached out to him a few months later and asked him to come on the show.

During the audition round, Alex performed his original song, Pretty Baby, earning four yeses from the judges- Howie Mandel , Heidi Klum , Sofia Vergara , and Simon Cowell .

Despite the unanimous vote, he said that he was very nervous while singing.

“I don’t know if you could tell, but my hands were shaking during the audition,” Alex told The U.S. Sun.

“You’re going onto the biggest stage in the world. It was the biggest thing I’ve ever done. Like you’re on TV. It’s a big deal. I was definitely nervous.”

He also said that he thought he could have “done better” even though the judges were impressed with him.

Alex released his original song before his audition, but he said it “blew up” after he was on the show.

The song hit number 29 on the iTunes chart and kept climbing until it reached number 10.

“My manager called me and told me it was charting and I was like can you repeat that number back to me?” he said.

“I was above Sabrina Carpenter at one point, which was really cool.”

WHAT’S NEXT?

Alex teased what he plans to sing next for his first live performance on AGT.

“I want to keep the songs a surprise,  but I will be doing originals for as far as I make it on the show,” he said.

Alex recently dropped another single called If You Were My Girl , but did not confirm if he will sing that on AGT.

The AGT contestant also teased that he will be releasing an EP later this Summer with all original songs on it.

Alex will be performing at a show in Los Angeles on August 29.

WHY AGT?

When asked why he picked AGT, Alex said it was “the biggest stage in the world.”

“It’s bigger than The Voice or Idol. My grandma even watches AGT,” he said.

“I wanted to get my original music out there for everyone to hear and bring it to a wider audience.”

Live shows begin tonight, August 13, after a two-week hiatus , with shows on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 8/7c on NBC.
