CUSTOMERS at Taco Bell are disappointed with a highly-anticipated partnership.

The fast food chain is celebrating 20 years of its Mountain Dew Baja Blast in 2024.

Mountain Dew created Baja Blast, the tropical-lime flavored version of the iconic soda, exclusively for Taco Bell in 2004.

To celebrate the “Bajaversary,” Taco Bell worked with the popular drinkware company Stanley to create a unique version of its viral Quencher H2.0 FlowState Tumbler.

At least 100 Tumblers dropped on August 13 for customers to start scooping up through a giveaway, per USA Today .

Taco Bell rewards members could’ve logged on to the mobile app at 2 pm for the chance to be one of the first 20 people to snag the cup, meaning they’d win free Baja Blast for a whole year.

While excitement has been high for many, some detailed complaints about the cup’s design.

Pictures of the Tumbler collaboration with Taco Bell show an all-white coloring and a smaller logo that reads “20th Bajaversary” in the Baja Blast signature turquoise on one side of the item and “MTN Dew” on the other.

A few fans felt there wasn’t enough thought and creativity put into the move from Taco Bell and Stanley.

Some even noted they wouldn’t try to get the special edition Tumbler because of it.

    TUMBLER TURMOIL

“I think it’s a little too plain,” a bummed customer wrote in a Facebook thread about the 20th-anniversary items.

“They missed their opportunity to make a really awesome cup.”

“Hard pass…honestly, they could’ve done so much more with this!” another wrote.

“They missed the mark here,” a third added.

Someone criticized the design, saying it “looks so lazy.”

Several others agreed that the Tumbler should’ve been predominantly turquoise, or at least the all-purple designs given to employees.

Taco Bell’s Baja Blast is a tropical lime-flavored soda with a staple turqoise color.

The drink was created exclusively for Taco Bell in 2004 by PepsiCo, the owner of Mountain Dew.

The launch of Baja Blast was notable as one of the first instances of a restaurant offering an exclusive soda, aimed at increasing fountain soda sales.

The Baja Blast brand has been expanded to include new flavors, alcoholic drinks, and energy drinks, and as merchandise.

The drink’s name comes from the Mexican state of Baja California.

That special edition Tumbler was awarded to staff who provided exceptional service and featured the Taco Bell logo and the “Live Mas” slogan on the side.

    ROOM FOR MORE

There are still several other perks for customers aside from the Tumbler in the “Bajaversary” celebration.

Customers can take advantage of a $1 Happier Hour at Taco Bell locations from July 29 until the end of the year for a medium Baja Blast or Baja Blast Freeze.

Starting on September 3, a Baja Blast Gelato will roll out for a limited time.

There’s also a Baja Blast Pie, but a release date for the addition has yet to be confirmed.

Taco Bell also recently added a new drive-thru service to rival competitors like Wendy’s.

The chain was even voted the best fast food restaurant in the United States for 2024.
