He explained that his wife picked up "fridge-scaping" to amp up their home decor.
"I guess it's a recent trend because I'd never heard about it before this," he said.
"She started decorating our fridge, and it was really getting on my nerves; for example, she put flowers in the fridge, in vases, in front of food, so you have to move things just to get to the food."
"She put all our food in fancy baskets, jars, and similar things."
Though he found it moderately inconvenient, he explained that he wasn't too bothered by her new habit — at least, at first.
"I didn’t care at first because I don’t have to use the fridge much anyways, I don’t cook a lot," he said.
"But she’s getting too meticulous with it and adding too much decor. It’s made the fridge very uninviting for me."
Worse, it's sparked fights between the couple when he does use the fridge.
"She gets upset when I get something from the fridge and don’t put things back perfectly," he said.
"She keeps taking it as a personal slight and acts like I’ve done something to deliberately hurt her when I haven’t.
"I just find it unnecessary to maintain such an organized fridge. Before she started this, it would take me 30 seconds to grab something quick from the fridge [but] now it’s a whole ordeal."
After grabbing leftovers from the fridge, his wife accused him of leaving it in "disarray."
"I explained how I find the hobby stupid, and she can decorate other things — it doesn’t have to be the fridge," he said.
She’s getting too meticulous with it and adding too much decor. It’s made the fridge very uninviting for me.
"It gets in the way when I want to quickly eat, [especially] when I come home from work hungry and tired and want to grab a quick bite."
Their son, he added, also found the situation "annoying," which he relayed to her.
"She didn’t argue back after that, and she’s removed all of the decorations from the fridge, which I have to admit has been relieving," he said.
"But she’s also been acting very distant towards me and just hasn't been herself and has been weird intimacy-wise."
Commenters shared a wide range of takes, including those who found the hobby unnecessary.
"It really is fundamentally dumb. You could put pictures and art on the outside of the fridge," said one.
"You could get little magnetic vases and put flowers or succulents on there. Air plants or whatever, but why does any of that need to be IN the fridge."
Others thought that while the hobby was impractical, they understood why his wife found it fun.
"All too often people, women in particular, are called stupid for liking...basically anything. Taylor Swift is dumb, the Barbie movie was dumb, Bravo shows are dumb, Stanley cups are dumb, Starbucks is a waste and so on and so forth," said one commenter.
"Would I decorate the interior of my fridge? Probably not. But if it was something OP's wife found a bit of fun in, then who cares?
"It literally harms no one. And OP's wife lives in a house with two guys who probably dominate a lot of the household with their wants and interests."
I don't argue. After we cleaned out the fridge, it was restructured to fit our current menu choices and what goes in them.... almost completely different layout, set up.

there is absolutely nothing wrong with her wanting to do that, however, it is wrong of her to be upset if someone else moves something to get an item in the refrigerator. if this is going to be her bag, she needs to accept the fact that it's not everyone's
